EU Gas Storage Levels

How full Europe's gas storage is right now, against the five-year seasonal average - the buffer that shapes winter gas and power prices.

73% full
Currently below the 87.6% five-year average.

European gas storage is the continent’s shock absorber. Underground sites - depleted fields, aquifers and salt caverns across Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and beyond - are filled through the low-demand summer and drawn down through winter. The aggregate fill %, published daily by Gas Infrastructure Europe via AGSI+, is one of the most closely watched numbers in the European energy market.

What matters is not just the level but the level relative to the season. Storage that is well below the five-year average heading into winter tightens the market and supports TTF; comfortably full storage does the opposite. Because gas sets the marginal power price across much of Europe, the same signal feeds through into electricity and carbon.

Rivex tracks the EU aggregate and all 20 individual countries daily, each against its own five-year seasonal band, alongside injection and withdrawal pace and days-to-target.

Frequently asked

What is the current EU gas storage level?
The figure above is the live European Union aggregate storage fill, shown as a percentage of working gas capacity, from GIE AGSI+ data covering more than 190 facilities across 20 countries. It updates daily and is shown next to the five-year seasonal average so you can see whether Europe is ahead of or behind the norm for the time of year.
Why do EU gas storage levels matter?
Storage is Europe’s buffer against a cold winter or a supply shock. Sites inject through summer and withdraw through winter, so how full they are heading into the heating season is one of the strongest signals for where TTF gas prices - and, through gas-fired generation, power prices - are likely to go. Low storage versus the seasonal average is bullish for gas; high storage is bearish.
How is EU gas storage measured?
Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) publishes daily inventory, injection and withdrawal data through its AGSI+ platform. Rivex normalises it into fill %, injection/withdrawal rates and days-to-target, and compares each country and the EU aggregate against a rolling five-year seasonal band.
